About HAA
We were founded as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1996. The Haitian American Alliance operates out of offices located in Brooklyn, New York. We advocate on behalf of our stakeholders and community members regarding inequity issues, such as, but not limited to:
- Health Care Disparities

- Racial Justice
- Environmental Equity
- Climate Crisis

History
The Haitian American Alliance of New York's mission is to meet community needs and empower Haitian Americans through increased participation in all areas of political, social, and economic endeavors. We promote the wellbeing of Haitian American communities, advocate for democracy and economic development in Haiti, and encourage fair and equitable treatment of all people of Haitian descent.
Educational Opportunities
Since its inception, HAA has strongly emphasized developing the next generation of Haitian Americans in New York. We supply young individuals with access to educational opportunities and personal development, including:
- Leadership Academy and college scholarship for young adults
- After-school programs including tutoring for students and adults
- ESL for Adults
- Training high school students in tax preparation and support tax clinics for adults
- Teaching Kreyol to medical professionals at Downstate Medical Center to increase communication with Hatian Patients
Medical Mission
HAA also has a long history of providing medical and health education programs to Haiti, including:
- Partner with the National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians Of New York to send teams of doctors and medical professionals to deliver urgent care
- Delivery of medical supplies and prosthetics to critical locations around the country
- Hurricane relief with food, clothing, medical, and reconstruction in impacted communities
- Adopting a school in Mirebalais in the Central Region to provide educational facilities, learning materials, and instruction
- Provide the city of Fort Liberté with medical assistance, education, youth sports activities, and various health and hygiene workshops
Relief Effort 2010 Earthquake
Through established programs in the U.S. and Haiti, HAA's strength lies in its capability to deliver multiple core services. We address immediate and long-term needs to ensure the sustainability of the country and its people.
Our relief efforts leverage our resources in Haiti and focus on four key areas:
- Medical – delivering on-the-ground urgent care to earthquake victims.
- Mental Health – coordinating mental health response for earthquake victims and their families in Haiti and the U.S.
- Education – facilitating mental health psycho-social services for healthcare providers and educators volunteering in Haiti or working with earthquake refugees in New York.
- Reconstruction – collaborating with renowned architects and urban development experts for planning the rebuilding of Haiti.
